Takeda Vintage Single Bevels
About ten years ago, a German man commissioned Shosui Takeda to make single bevel knives. This man is not around today, and so the knives were not claimed. Composed of Blue #1 and Aogami Super steel, we are able to dig up fifteen blades that completes this collection.
They lay in Takeda's workshop for years, until we stumbled across them and decided to salvage and refine them in the state that you'll see them today.
The final process consists of an even thinning, as well as a natural stone finish. The first two numbered knives of 15 will be released December 19, 2016 (marked 1 for Tosho and marked 2 for Ai & Om). The first two are right handed yanagiba blades.
In this video, you will see Ivan Fonseca of Tosho Knife Arts select the natural stones for the Takeda vintage single bevels at a stone shop called Morihei in Tokyo. Mr. Oguro, is the president of the shop and is a well known man in the scene of knives and stones.
