Komon Hizumitoribō (Knife Straightening Stick)
ABOUT THE HIZUMITORIBO
Komon's Hizumitoribō (straightening stick) was designed by Tosho co-founder, Ivan Fonseca, and hand-crafted in-house by the company. The stick features five different slots, each allowing the user to make different adjustments to the blade based on the areas that are warped.
The first slot is primarily for fixing bends across the entire blade with the spine down, while the second slot is more targeted towards broad, but specific areas.
The third and fourth slot is perfect for fixing the heel, machi, spine, and the tip area. The shallower depth makes it easier to control the blade while you bend the smaller affected areas. This allows for the knife to be placed edge down (if that's what's necessary), precision and touch sensitivity that helps the user gauge how much strength is necessary to put into the bend.
The final slot has the smallest depth and is best used for delicate tip adjustments. Because of how shallow it is, you get much better feedback as you bend the tip. This is especially important if the blade is facing edge down since it's more sensitive than the spine.
